ROTARY CORNER FUNDRAISER
HISTORY OF THE ROTARY FOUNTAIN
In early 1931, the Rotary Club of Vero Beach constructed the original Rotary Fountain in Pocahontas Park. Crafted from coquina rock, a public drinking fountain was dedicated to Dr. Charles H. Pettibone, a retired minister and the first president of the club.
In 2005, to honor the 100th anniversary of Rotary International, the five Rotary Clubs of Indian River County worked together to build a fountain at the corner of 14th Avenue and 21st Street. The new structure was intended to revive the original fountain's spirit and celebrate Rotary service to the community.
Over time, the Centennial Fountain fell into disrepair. The Rotary Clubs recently formed a committee to explore renovation options, ultimately deciding to rename and repurpose the structure due to the substantial estimated costs of refurbishing and maintaining it as a fountain.
The name of the new structure will be the Rotary Corner and will become a beautifully landscaped showplace with native and seasonal plants, trees, and lighting. It will create a visually appealing focal point and enhance the look and feel of the corner as well as be sustainable for many years to come.
